TAINO CERAMICS WORKSHOPJarabacoa (central Cordillera Mountains), Dominican Republic | |||
|
Work with Angels Tello Pardo, Master in Studio Art and cermic sculptor, in an intensive workshop that draws on the history and forms of the ancient Taino people who lived on the island of Espanola (the D.R.) before the conquest. Tello Pardo has directed art centers and has established a ceramics community at Los Marranitos, near the Piedras Negras property where the workshops are held. We will benefit from Tello Pardo's research into the potent myths expressed in the sculptural forms of this ancient people, as well as her expertise in hand-built ceramic sculptural techniques.
The cost includes lunch daily and a visit to Los Marranitos where we will fire the pieces made in the workshops. Transportation to the Dominican Republic is not included. |

Accommodations will be at Piedras Negras in Las Guazaras or nearby. Dinner (optional) is provided for $7.00 additional, or there are good restaurants around Jarabacoa. Besides the ceramics workshop, participants have the option of doing watercolor meditations (inspired by the beautiful, natural site) with watercolor artist, Susan Austad. There is river rafting, horseback riding, and golf in the area for friends or partners who may want to come along.
Piedras Negras is a large property next to a river, five miles from Jarabacoa, a mountainous area in the center of the Dominican Republic. It is being developed by artists Susan Austad and Ramon Sanchez into a creative center where a series of art workshops in different media will be held. >> Read testimonials about the workshop.
